The names of rivers are some of the oldest and most mysterious words in the English language - the word fal is an old Celtic word, meaning either whirlpool or prince, as well as the name of one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. For over two thousand
years, the River Fal has been the life-blood of the local community around
Truro and Falmouth and even now, the local shipping news shows Falmouth,
in land terms often seen as a remote peninsula on a peninsula, is in fact
still central to the world of the high seas and oceans. The Fal Estuary is a drowned river or 'ria and its many creeks and inlets open into the third largest natural harbour in the world. The press carries the Made in Cornwall kitemark guaranteeing that if you buy a fal book, you are buying a quality product which was conceived, developed and produced in Cornwall. Just as ships leave Falmouth for the whole of the world, we would like our books to reach you, wherever you are...
